Global Warming...Deal With It

The main stream media is finally giving some time to the "rational" thinkers on climate change.

Pielke's analysis, published last month in the journal Natural Hazards Review, is part of a controversial movement that argues global warming over the rest of this century will play a much smaller role in unleashing planetary havoc than most scientists think.

His research has led him to believe that it is cheaper and more effective to adapt to global warming than to fight it.

"The radical middle -- that's how we talk about ourselves," said Daniel Sarewitz, a public policy expert at Arizona State University who has collaborated with Pielke on climate policy studies.

Pielke, whose career has focused on the politics of science, likes to describe the scattered collection of scientists and policy wonks as the "non-skeptic heretic club."

Pielke is no "right winger". Dennis Prager had him on his radio show a few days back, and he admitted as much. But at least he is getting some air time.

Melting Ice But A Growing Jackpot $

This is new to me, but I can see why so many people are interested.
Nenana, Alaska is a few hundred miles north of Anchorage and it's a bett'n town. Each year for the past 90 years, the residents wager on when the ice will break on the river Tanana. Now Climitalogists are wanting to get the records to see if climate change is having an effect on when the ice breaks.

If you want to place a bet, you have until April 5th, and for $2.50 a chance to win what was last years take of over $303,000!

Al Gore Starts His New Offensive

Our favorite climate hero, Mr. Al Gore was on 60 Minutes last night talking about his new campaign, which is trying to renewing our fears about global warming. If You didn't get to see it, you can watch it here.
As they make mention in the show, which is what people really want to know, is what I commented on the other day; who does he support for president, or has he any intention on running himself?

Still Lov'n Al Gore For President

There is still tons of talk around about Al Gore running for presisent. Some are even proposing that Mr.Gore is needed to save the Democrats from themselves, given the fighting between Barack and Hillary.

You can always count on the folks at AlGore.org to have a say.

If Clinton and Obama continue to do damage to each other's campaigns, if they continue to split the delegates, if it appears that the Democratic Party will be divided rather than united going into the convention, it may become evident that the party needs someone who can unite the Democrats, and most importantly, someone who can beat John McCain in November. To our way of thinking, the obvious someone is Al Gore.

Obviously. But what these bozo's forget is he would be a one issue candidate.

Global Warming Is Back!

Just when the news was starting to look bad for the IPCC and all the other climate change nutters, a huge section of ice breaks off in Antarctica. They had to have been thanking the global warming gods for the lucky break.

Scientists said they are not concerned about a rise in sea level from the latest event, but say it's a sign of worsening global warming.

Yet we find that the rest of the Antarctic is not really changing, and some areas even cooling.

Climate in Antarctica is complicated and more isolated from the rest of the world.

Much of the continent is not warming and some parts are even cooling, Vaughan said.

However, the western peninsula, which includes the Wilkins ice shelf, juts out into the ocean and is warming. This is the part of the continent where scientists are most concern about ice-melt triggering sea level rise.

So, really, global warming is only happening on certain parts of the globe? And as far as Antarctica is concerned, only the Wilkens ice shelf is being affected by global warming?

Maybe I should be more concerened, but by the picture above...I just don't buy it.

More European Double Talk

Here is what we have come to expect from these European nations who think that global warming is the end all issue. Norway said back in 2007 that by 2030 they would be carbon neutral. Planting trees in Argentina and buying organic food from Africa offsets their emissions at home. I believe that is called using "fuzzy math".

Many signed on not only to set an example of their own but also for a kind of public relations boon, or to pre-empt or get out ahead of government regulations they feel are probably inevitable. In the past year, the Vatican announced that it was carbon neutral, and companies like Wal-Mart say they are aiming for that goal.
But their claims — like Norway’s — all require asterisks, like home-run records buoyed by steroids. And as the Norwegian plan shows, achieving a carbon-neutral state, for now, often depends as much on how you make the calculation and how much money you spend, as it does on hard work, sacrifice or even innovation.

Looking good is more important than actually doing good.

Kansas Governor Says NO! To Clean Coal

Governor Kathleen Sebelius vetoed the newest legislation to get two new clean coal fired nuclear power plants in Kansas.
In the Washington Post article on the same subject, here is what the governor had to say:

"Of all the duties and responsibilities entrusted to me as governor, none is greater than my obligation to protect the health and well-being of the people of Kansas,"

Of course the Sierra Club always has to be involved.

Opinions varied about the significance of Sebelius's action. Stephanie Cole, a Sierra Club spokeswoman, said other states' efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions would be damaged by the two plants.
"It sends a message that Kansas is willing to be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem," Cole said of the governor's veto. "Kansas is sort of ground zero right now for the global warming debate."

But Senate President Stephen Morris (R) is not convinced:

"The people of Kansas expect, and they need, affordable electricity, and so we'll be working to make sure that happens, whether it's a veto override in the next few days or some other way to achieve it," Neufeld said. "We'll just continue to hold options open."

So here in lies the problem-Save the plant from the unproven evils of CO2 or Provide affordable energy to American citizens.
Those of us who have not bought into the whole global warming hysteria, are also the same who think that people need to find their own way in life. They need to work hard and pay their own way. Governor Sebelius doesn't worry about all that since most democrats will be happy to tax the rich and give that money to those who can't afford their heating bill because she decided that coal is dirty.

Beachfront Property Values And Climate Change

Reading through Instapundit yesterday, Glen Reynolds posted on beachfront property in South Carolina and how much of it was for sale. He posted several readers thoughts on why that might be and why it is such a good deal right now if you are looking. I think you need to look at why people are selling in this market. What would prompt them to sell at this point? The EPA says South Carolina is in trouble.

Same Old Lefty Arguement About Guns

Here is an opinion from the Post, once again saying the federal government should not be interfering with the states, or districts in this case, ability to make their own gun laws. But as with all rights given to us in the constitution, the federal government would not have to get involved if those same states (or districts) wouldn't infringe on those rights. Of course even in the title of the opinion, it's about public safety.

Every right, including freedom of speech, is subject to some limitations. The legal and public policy arguments for allowing broad government regulation of firearms are compelling. District law bans private ownership of handguns and requires long guns to be kept in the home disassembled or stored with a trigger lock. This approach reflects the grim realities of an urban setting where handguns account for a disproportionate number of homicides and are used in a great majority of robberies and rapes.

The key here is "disassembled and locked away". Ownership usually includes the use of the article of ownership. The D.C. law renders the ownership of a handgun useless. It's like owning a car, but the wheels have to be stored in a shed locked to a metal post.
I can hear it already though,"Yea, but cars don't kill people!"  Well guns don't magically jump off the table and kill people either. But a gun that is usable, could possibly save an innocent life.
There is also no mention of the fact that even with all those gun laws, crime is rampant in D.C. according to the statistics. But look at all the states in the list. California, who has, by far, the most unfriendly gun laws in the nation is ranked 6th in the country in 2005.
(latest numbers). Then you look at Vermont, were you they have hardly law-one on the books regarding guns, and they are ranked 50th!
Sure, there are other states that show the opposite on both sides, but at the very least, it should show that gun regulation does not mean that crime goes down.
My guess is morals are down in those states.

Baseball, Apple Pie, And Global Warming

I am glad that so many people are so concerened about the warming of our planet. Now Japan's calling foul on climate change. By shortening  game time by 12 minutes,  Nippon Proffesional Baseball  is going to help by doing their part to strike out climate change. How that will make a difference is anyones guess.
I would be happy with about an hour shorter baseball games anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like going to games and getting into the whole beer and hotdog thing. But sometimes the game gets caught in an extra long inning or it goes into extra innings, and it can drag on and on and on...untill you just get up and leave. You don't want too, but you simply can't sit there for five hours waiting for a game to end.

I say, drop three innings and if why save a little energy and slow down global warming in the process, hey, even better.

Southern Baptists Call For Action On Climate Chanbge

A group of Southern Babtists have decided to throw their towel in with the global warming nutters. They don't expect all christians to buy into it though.

The signers of "A Southern Baptist Declaration on the Environment and Climate Change" acknowledged that not all Christians accept the science behind global warming. They said they do not expect fellow believers to back any proposed solutions that would violate Scripture, such as advocating population control through abortion.

Okay, who has advocated that? Outside of maybe the Chinese government and a few African countries who use that as a means of controlling their own countries populations, I have never heard anyone say that was okay.

EU Sounds The Retreat On Emissions Then Blames U.S.

The same day after getting on America's case about not doing enough for the environment, some members of the EU are back-pedaling on pledges they made to cut their own greenhouse gases.
You know what the difference is between them and us on this issue? The U.S. is not going to make pledges it knows it can't uphold. The EU, like all countries hell-bent on making global warming an issue, will do and say what ever is necessary to show a good face.
And now EU has given all their citizens "green guilt".   I guess they feel the need to pay people to tell them they are environmental sinners, at least according to their government.
